Cross section predictions for hydrostatic and explosive burning

چکیده

We review different models used for reactions involved in nuclear astrophysics. The reaction rate is defined for resonant as well as for non-resonant processes. For low-density nuclei, we describe the DWBA method, the potential model, the R-matrix method, and microscopic cluster models. The statistical model is developed for high-level densities. Details of calculations in the low-and high-density regimes are illustrated with new results concerning transfer reactions and level densities.

Proton Capture Cross Section of Sr Isotopes and Their Importance for Nucleosynthesis of Proton-rich Nuclides Typeset Using Revt E X 2

The (p,γ) cross sections of three stable Sr isotopes have been measured in the astrophysically relevant energy range. These reactions are important for the p-process in stellar nucleosynthesis and, in addition, the reaction cross sections in the mass region up to 100 are also of importance concerning the rp-process associated with explosive hydrogen and helium burning. It is speculated that thi...

In stars with temperatures above 20·10 K, hydrogen burning is dominated by the CNO cycle. Its rate is determined by the slowest process, the N(p,γ)O reaction. Deep underground in Italy’s Gran Sasso laboratory, at the LUNA 400 kV accelerator, the cross section of this reaction has been measured at energies much lower than ever achieved before. Using a windowless gas target and a 4π BGO summing d...

Finite Element Simulation of Hydrostatic Extrusion Process to Produce Thin Bimetallic Parts

The hydrostatic extrusion is a new method of extrusion process. The most important advantage of this method is reduction of friction and close tolerance for the coating thickness. In this study, the hydrostatic extrusion simulation of bimetallic wires has performed using of finite element method. In the following the advantages of hydrostatic extrusion compared to the direct extrusion are prese...

Wolf–rayet Stars and Radioisotope Production

Radioisotopes are natural clocks which can be used to estimate the age of the solar system and of the Universe (see e.g. Takahashi 1998; Chen & Tilton 1976; see also the recent review by Arnould & Takahashi 1999). They are responsible for the steady decline of the light curves of supernovae (see e.g. Diehl & Timmes 1998, and references therein). The diffuse emission at 1.8 MeV from the decay of...
